It's the definition used by practically every modern Hindu preacher
that came to the West. I can't believe that you never got stalked by
Hare Krishnas and forced to read their books. :)

There is a story about two zen monks. They were on their way to the
temple when they saw a beautiful girl who couldn't get across the mud.
One of them picked her up, carried her across, put her down, said
goodbye and they went on.
The other monk was silent for a while, but at a point he couldn't
restrain himself any longer and said:
"Brother, we are monks. We're not supposed to have contact with women.
Why did you touch that girl?"
"My friend", the other replied, "I left her way back there; how come
you're still carrying her?"
