Aaaaactuallyyy.... it can be explained, it's just that your teachers
were clueless.
God is the Absolute, the foundation of reality. God is one. However,
since we are limited in our understanding, we can perceive at least
three "aggregate states", different aspects of God, depending on his
relationship with us. So, God in his aspect of the foundation of the
reality and the transcendental Absolute is called "Father"; in his
aspect of guiding and counseling presence within our consciousness we
address him as the "Holy Spirit", and when the Word becomes the body
and gets to live with us, we call him the "Son". Not that complicated
to explain, even to a kid, if you know a thing or two, of course.
