In my opinion, the most important thing in pranayama is the content of your spirit; if you think about matras and ratios, and keep controlling things, first of all you won't accomplish much, and second of all you could disturb your pranic flows. The simplest way to avoid trouble is to keep your mind in a state of ecstatic devotion during respiration; this way, your system will be revitalized. You can find out if you're doing things wrong this way: if you have a need to yawn, inhale deeply, sigh or in some other way recharge your system (which happens spontaneously), that means that your "pranayama" is actually draining your energy and that it's counterproductive. Keep it simple, focus mostly on something that invokes high spiritual devotion, and inhale, retain and exhale that emotionally-spiritual state. Retain breath by prolonging inhalation; make an "infinite" inhalation of joy and devotion, of bliss and love. Then you'll get real results. Although, I would personally never recommend beginners to do pranayama, since one must be an expert on one's energy system to do it properly. I would advice the resonance technique that you can find on my website. From that, one can gradually get to know one's system and expand practice into complex pranayama. -- Homepage: http://www.danijel.org |
